Flash flood warnings cover parts of Travis, Williamson and Burnet counties
Heavy rain prompted flood alerts across the Austin area Friday evening. Warnings included parts of Travis, Williamson and Burnet counties, with a wider watch in effect for Travis, Hays and Williamson counties.
The National Weather Service placed western Williamson County and northeastern Burnet County under a flash flood warning at 5:45 p.m. Friday as storms moved through Central Texas. Cedar Park, Georgetown, Leander, Liberty Hill and Florence were among the communities named in the alert, and Northwest Travis County was later added.
The warnings were set to run until 1 a.m. Saturday after 2 to 3 inches of rain had already fallen in some areas, with more rain expected. Much of the Austin area was also under a flood watch, and drivers were urged to avoid roads during heavy rainfall.
